- Status Report The Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D Turbofan Engine Family
The successful run of Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.’s (P&WC’s) JT15D turbofan engine family began in 1971 with the certification of the JT15D-1 engine initially rated at 2,200 lbs. of thrust. The first customer delivery in 1972 was to Cessna to power the Fanjet 500. Since then, the JT15D-1 series has accumulated over 10,090,400 hours on 1,417 engines. The first growth engine, the JT15D-4, rated at 2,500 lbs. of thrust, was certified in 1973. The JT15D-4 series of engines powers the Cessna Citation II series aircraft, as well as the Mitsubishi Diamond 1A, the Aerospatiale Corvette and the Agusta S211 military trainers. P&WC has delivered 2,195 JT15D-4 series engines worldwide, which have accumulated over 13,290,100 operating hours. The second growth step resulted in the JT15D-5 series, originally certified in 1983 and rated at 2,900 lbs. of thrust. Applications for this engine series range from the Raytheon Beechjet 400A (JT15D-5) to the T-1A Jayhawk (JT15D-5B) and the Cessna Citation V (JT15D-5A). The latest member of this engine series – the JT15D-5D – was certified at 3,045 lbs. in 1993. The JT15D-5D powers the Cessna Citation Ultra Aircraft and the Cessna UC-35A. Over 2,300 JT15D-5 series engines, which have accumulated more than 7,956,300 hours of operation. P&WC has delivered close to 6,000 JT15D engines, which have accumulated nearly 30,000,000 operating hours on over 2,700 different aircraft in 80 countries. The JT15D is still in great demand today.
