- Status Report The Pratt & Whitney Canada PW500 Turbofan Engine Family
Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.’s (P&WC’s) PW500 turbofan engine family has accumulated over 1 million operating hours. It currently includes three models – the PW530A, the PW535A and the PW545A. The PW530A, rated at 2,887 lbs. of thrust, powers the Cessna Citation Bravo business jet aircraft. In order to demonstrate the PW530A’s hardware integrity, P&WC, in conjunction with NORDAM, completed a 4,000-cycle endurance test with excellent results. Based on this and other demanding endurance tests, the PW530A entered into service with a time between overhaul (TBO) of 4,000 hours in February 1997. Production deliveries of the PW530A began in June 1996. More than 550 engines have been delivered, accumulating a total flight time of over 450,000 hours. The PW535A engine attained Transport Canada Type Certification on June 22, 1999, and FAA Certification was obtained on November 18, 1999. The PW535A entered service with the delivery of the first Cessna Citation Ultra Encore in September 2000. The Citation Ultra Encore received its Type Certification in April 2000. The engine fleet time currently stands at over 90,000 hours with 230 engines delivered. The first PW545A production engine was delivered to Cessna on August 31, 1997. The PW545A was certified by Transport Canada in February 1997, and FAA certification was obtained on July 18, 1997. Rated at 3,804 lbs. at takeoff, the PW545A powers the Cessna Citation Excel, which entered service in July 1998. As of the end of January, approximately 700 PW545A engines had been delivered, accumulating an estimated fleet time of over 500,000 flight hours.
