- Status Report The Pratt & Whitney Canada PW600 Engine Family
Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.’s (P&WC’s) new PW600F family of general aviation turbofan engines in the 900 to 3,000 pound-thrust range is targeted to provide operators with optimum value and performance while significantly reducing ownership costs. Cessna Aircraft recently selected the new generation PW615F engine to power the Citation Mustang, its newest introductory-level business jet. And, the PW610F engine was selected by Eclipse Aviation Corp. to power its twin-engine Eclipse 500 jet. These two engine programs focus on low ownership cost, performance and reliability through new engine core design, scaleable technology, integration and manufacturing. As a prelude to the selections, a first run of the PW625F demonstrator engine, at its full takeoff power of 2,500 pounds of thrust was completed in October 2001. The PW625F engine achieved another significant milestone in October 2002 with the successful first flight on a flying test bed. The flight testing program allowed P&WC to validate operational capabilities and performance of the PW600F engine. The core technology of the PW625F demonstrator engine would be scaleable across the entire PW600F turbofan and turboprop family. Certification of the PW615F and PW610F are on track for the fourth quarter of 2005 and first quarter of 2006 respectively. P&WC, based in Longueuil, Quebec, is a world leader in aviation engines powering business, general aviation and regional aircraft and helicopters. The company also offers advanced engines for industrial applications. P&WC's operations and service network span the globe. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), a hightechnology company based in Hartford, Connecticut. - 30 -
